Moab #2

Monday 10 August

Just taking the opportunity to clean up before we head out in the morning for Durango
there's a few interesting pics of Arches Natl Park to attach.

Had a quiet breakfast across the road, and chance to read the local rag
ran through a bit of it in the last letter
but missed the story about a local school teacher who lost his job when he shot the leader of a gang taking control of his class.
The replacement teacher was an ex navy hand-to-hand combat instructor,
on the first morning, the youths outlined to him what the situation was
so he locked the door on the class-room, and explained things were going to be different from now on
and anybody thought any different should step up front.
There was a bit of a pause, but one eventually did, and immediately got flattened for his bravado.
Within 12 months the gang were doing things like camp-outs, physical exercise programs, community service etc
and speeches to the annual prize-giving on how it was important to be a good kid.
What prompted the article was that the original teacher had just been released from custody, no charge.

Went to the local post office, to return-post a key from a hotel couple of days back, that I forgot to return on check-out
the PO just like we used to have, but modern,
but with a queue stretching out the door, like we used to have.
Cant decide whether we lost something with the dismantling of the PO system, or not.

Got some laundry done...
the other blokes had commandered the washer and drier
then buggered off to find some food, and left me to empty their stuff out
which I got profuse thanks and a couple of beers, for folding and packing into their laundry bag.
I had to explain it wasnt as it seemed...
a french girl in a bikini came in from the pool and wanted a quick jig-jog on the drier while it was still jumping around
and I said nah, not unless she folded the washing
but nobody believed me......

My roomie got his bike serviced and was ready to head out to Arches Nat Park
and a revelation that was, stunning......
Some of us have wanted to do a detour around Monument Valley, which Ken hasn't included,
but I suspect what he's taking us to, might be better,
so anyway, here's the few shots of Arches Park.

Catch you tomorrow.
